Ascendo Photos V2.6 Now Available

Ascendo just announced over on Pinstack there is a new version of Ascendo Photos now available, version 2.6. It is available on Handango for $29.95.

There have been improvements to the thumbnail views, additional icons to associate with your galleries, and address integration when sending your pictures via email.

If that isn't enough when you buy Ascendo photos it now comes with Theme Pack for BlackBerry, a $9.95 when purchased separately.

Also included are three photos from Photo Pack by Scott Roush. The full 50 photo pack is $19.95.

As a side note Ascendo is offering a free copy of the program if you are a native speaker of French or Italian and translate their product description on a first come basis.

Seido Extended Battery For The Pearl Now Available

Seido now has an extended battery complete with new back panel available for the BlackBerry Pearl.

The new battery is 2400mAh, which according to Seido provides about 170% more capacity than the batteries the Pearl comes with.

It increases the Pearl's thickness by about 6mm.

Right now the battery is $49.95 and set to be shipped around the 25th or 26th of January.

The price includes the new battery cover that includes cut outs for the speaker, camera, and self portrait mirror.

The website says the battery cover is black, which might be a problem for a white Pearl owner.

BlackBerry Pearl Addict In One Day!

Remember my friend who was getting a Pearl? Well he got it Tuesday night.

Having been around me and my BlackBerry madness for a long time he actually drove about half an hour away after getting off work at 10pm to go and pick it up.

So Wednesday he brings it in. He had already downloaded Google Maps, set up profiles, and put pictures of his MyFaves on his Pearl from his PC.

He was asking me how to lock the keys and what memory card I thought he should get.

He is already an admitted BlackBerry addict and he hasn't even had the phone a week. Apparently I know how to pick friends. Or maybe RIM knows how to make an addicting phone.

Pinstacker Reports I Had An 8800 In My Hand!

Pinstacker miles_troope reports that he got to hold a BlackBerry 8800 in his hands. Apparently it is a test BlackBerry with his employer.

What did he have to say about it?

No camera.

It did have WiFi.

It was heavier than he expected, heavier than the 8700. He said it was also very slim.

He did report he was not able to connect it to any WiFi hot spots.

He did not have it around long enough to see how the battery held up under usage.

He commented that it is a larger 8100, the keys are compact, but it wasn't hard to type on. I personally was a little worried after holding an 8100 this week.

One last item of note, the poster is in the UK.

US Patent And Copyright Laws Guide Avilable For BlackBerry

I had a giggle when I found this under What's New on Handango's website.

US Patent, Copyright, and Trademark Laws Quick Study Guide from MobileReference is now available. It is $9.99 regular price, $8.99 for Club Handango members.

You can search for words or phrases, add bookmarks, add text annotation and mark-ups.

The information automatically synchronizes with your PC, allowing you to read on the BlackBerry or PC and transfer your annotations between the two.

With all the various lawsuits involving RIM and other similar devices, maybe this is something they should all download on their BlackBerrys.

QuickPlayer For BlackBerry Now Avilable Worldwide

QuickPlayer for BlackBerry was announced as being available worldwide on Tuesday.

A new update is that QuickPlayer does work on the 8703e now and it did not before.

QuickPlayer is still free to download and try, but it is $7.95 a month to have the full service. It is billed to a credit card, not to your phone bill.

If you haven't checked it out yet, as most 8703e owners probably haven't, check it out. I certainly will be.

BoxWave Releases Pearl Desktop Cradle

BoxWave posted their new Pearl Desktop Charger on Pinstack for everyone to see.

It supports the high speed USB 2.0 for data transfers. The cradle also comes with an AC adapter for another charging option. It also makes it useful when you don't have your PC or laptop with you.

The cradle without the spare battery charger is $32.95 with a $7.00 web special discount.

The cradle with the spare battery charger will set you back $52.95, also with a $7.00 web special savings.

BlackBerry Addict In Less Than 28 Days!

Remember a few weeks back when Pinstacker Ms. Brenda first interviewed a new BlackBerry owner?

Well as it turned out it only took a month to convert a non-BlackBerry user to a BlackBerry addict, or CrackBerry addict to some.

The new BlackBerry addict is looking forward to the upcoming BlackBerry 8800, as so many of us are.

The new user even ordered accessories for the BlackBerry. The list is clear proof of addict status. A car charger, a leather case, LCD screen cleaning kit and a travel charger.

Add to that downloading of themes, tunes, and wallpaper we can be sure there is a CrackBerry addict.

As if all that isn't enough, the new user ran the battery down low and was without a usb cable. Panic attack, like any good BlackBerry owner.

Welcome to the family.

New York City To Get Parking Help Online

This time it is New York City that will have parking help online, however in New York it is not coming from the city.

Instead of the city telling you what spots are open there is a database of parking garages and which streets are legal to park on during various times. If you know you need to be near a certain place at a certain time you can take a look to see which streets will be safe to park on and start there.

The website also recommends calling ahead to reserve a spot in a close by parking garage.

The service costs about $30 a year and there are about 100 people signed up at www.wheretoparkmanhattan.com. You can access the website from your PC or on you BlackBerry's browser.

More T-Mobile Outage Problems?

Pinstacker N8DBB is reporting massive T-Mobile outages. He says the outages are due to the storm hitting the central US now.

Just for the record, I rarely have had problems with my T-Mobile service and I love them as a provider. Of course I am also located in Florida, so I am very far from the central US and never have to worry about winter storms.

Are you having data outages tonight on T-Mobile?

How To Configure Yahoo Messenger On Cingular BlackBerrys

Do you have a Cingular BlackBerry and like to chat on Yahoo?

Pinstacker Stack Pro N8DBB recently complied a How To Guide for Cingular BlackBerrys to get Yahoo IM from other posts.

The problem is that Cingular does not have the service book required for Yahoo IM to work on your BlackBerry.

If you have an unlocked BlackBerry and a friend with another provider's SIM card you could always pop that into your BlackBerry and get the service books.

If not there are a few steps to follow. Basically you download a backup file to your PC, load it on your BlackBerry, register your BlackBerry to get the other service books you need. This should get the needed service book on the BlackBerry and you would be good to go.

Good luck!

BlackBerry Etiquette - AskMen.com Version

Surfing the web this afternoon and I found the AskMen.com BlackBerry Etiquette. What do they have to say about the subject?

  • Use an email filter to only get the emails you need to.
  • Say no to a Bluetooth headset.
  • Leave the BlackBerry behind, or hide it well when going out.
  • Don't show it off.
  • No texts during dinner or anytime you are out with others.
  • Subtle ringers.
I think I have broken every single rule they have. I use my Bluetooth all the time, I hate getting the screen dirty by holding it up to my face. I am always showing off my BlackBerry, and sending texts any time I can.

What does BlackBerry etiquette say about using the BlackBerry in the bathroom?

My Friend Is Getting A BlackBerry Pearl!

I have spent several months convincing a friend at work that he needs to upgrade his very old phone that doesn't even have a web browser. He was tied to his old Cingular phone that could barely send and receive text messages.

I had been showing off my BlackBerry 8700 and he complained it was too big. I pointed him to the Pearl, as it is smaller. He wavered for sometime.

Finally he discovered the MyFaves plan with T-Mobile and took the plunge, ordering himself a brand new T-Mobile Pearl complete with the BlackBerry data add on package.

Hopefully he will have the phone in time for work this upcoming week and I will get to play with it. No one I know actually has the Pearl, so I am excited.

Opera Mini Changes From Google Search To Yahoo Search

Just came across a post on Pinstack about Opera Mini changing their search engine on the opening page from Google to Yahoo.

Some people are not happy with the change and want to go back to Google searches.

On my BlackBerry I still have Google showing up. According to the Opera Mini blog new downloads will include the Yahoo Search. Existing users will see the switch made soon too. Click the Read link to see the posting.

Not sure that I have an opinion one way or another. But there are a lot of people on both sides on this one.

Feel free to let Opera know what you think by posting on their forum, here, if you are for Yahoo or for Google.

Ultimately the change has been made and from what I read if you don't see the Yahoo logo on your Opera Mini you soon will.

BlackBerry Baby On 60 Minutes

Apparently BlackBerry babies are becoming more common. If you were watching 60 Minutes on the 10th you might have seen a baby using her parent's BlackBerry.

The story was about working 24/7. Technology is supposed to make things easier for us, but instead we take work with us every where we go. Even the babies.
